Reflection Week 2

04 Oct

I was late to come to the class almost every day, it was because I woke up late and my place was far enough from campus. On that day, there was a motivation class. I arrived to the class when the presentation on motivation class was running. Some of my friends were presenting their group poster and the others were looking to them.

I came and my lecturer, Bu Lidya, asked me to join to my group. She did not really strict to the ruler and she was wise enough. She did not complain about her students who came late and I agreed with her. Because if the students came to the class even though they were late, it meant that she/he who came late had high motivation to that class. She/he came late maybe because they had external problem and we should tolerant about it and I think it was better then who came to the class without motivation to study.

After presentation session was finished, we were back to the material. The material that day was about needs theory by Maslow. I had some criticize about that theory. The Maslow Theory said that to fulfill the higher needs, absolutely we should fulfill the lower level of needs first. So logically, to fulfill the prime needs, a person must sacrifice the higher needs. For example, needs of self-esteem is higher than prime needs. So a person should sacrifice their self-esteem to get prime needs. And I think it is wrong concept if it applied to our life. Some of literature said that the Maslow theory should be reversed, and I agreed with this opinion.

Hhhmm..In my opinion the way of your thinking about come late to school is quite controversial.
yes, I agree that sometimes teacher need to tolerate if the students do mistakes. However, It doesn’t mean that the rules have to break up by the tolerance. And if we did the same mistakes for many times, do we have to tolerate it? Maybe yes, but there is another thing that we have to reflect. Why we did the same mistakes whereas we have high motivation? 🙂

Your opinion about Maslow’s theory is interesting. I think that it depends on your perspective. You can be right with your opinion, and Maslow can be right in his opinion. One thing that arise in my mind, how people will start thinking about the tertiary needs if their primary needs do not fulfilled yet?

I agree with evik and ismi,,

You have to think about the material that the lecturer have explain before you come to the class. Or about your friends that almost everyday come earlier to campus. Beside the tolerance,, we have to have respect to each other right?

keep spirit and keep your motivation,,
keep try to come earlier to class. 🙂

I agree with you Riyan that Ms Lydia is wise, but you are not. You can not respect Ms Lydia and your friend.

      Hai Riyan..
your awareness is good enough, you realize that you came late almost everyday to the class..
but is there any reflection on yourself about it?
I think, your place was NOT far enough from campus than Ismi,Aida, and other friends include me. I realize that I ever came late but I try to come ontime although it was so difficult because we have to respect to others who always come ontime (include our teacher)..
      so, Let’s try together… Hhehe 🙂

Ok,Ryan.. About Maslow theory, I’m asking you, why do you think Maslow call it “hierarchy of needs” not “stages of needs”?
And as you wrote “…Some of literature said that the Maslow theory should be reversed…” please also give some references about it, ok? I think it would be interesting to discuss about it before the class please come earlier on the next meeting, ok? 😉
